Regulation

Restrictions:

No access to documents later than 9 October 1958 (the death of Pope Pius XII).

  • Each year at the first visit to ARSI, the researcher must register and provide a proof of identity, and a letter of recommendation

  • Those using manuscript material must have the competence to read the documents provided. Staff will provide only limited assistance

  • The use of pens is prohibited
  • Fooddrinks and sharp instruments are prohibited in the reading room

Reservations

The Archive is open Mon-Fri 9AM-4PM

Initially the capacity will be limited to 10 scholars upon reservation.

To reserve a place, please email: gro.airucjs@ofni-isra. Please indicate in the email the dates in which you would like to have access to the Archive and attach a detailed description of the research project (especially if it is a first visit to the Archive).

If it is a first visit to the Archive, you cannot request a date to access the archive within 5 working days of your request (to allow archivists time to analyze your research and possibly prepare the documents).

The reservation will be considered valid only after having received confirmation from ARSI by email. In view of the large number of requests, you are kindly asked to make a reservation only for those days in which your presence in ARSI is guaranteed.

Yearly Schedule 2026 (Dates are inclusive)

The archive will be closed  on the following days in 2026:

  • From Monday 30 March to Monday 6 April 2026 (Holy Easter)
  • Friday 1 May 2026 (International Workers’ Day)
  • Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 June 2026 (National bank holiday)
  • Monday 29 June 2026 (Local bank holiday)
  • From Wednesday 29 July to Friday 18 September 2026 (summer closing)
  • Monday 2 November 2026 (Day of the Dead)
  • Tuesday 8 December 2026 (Immaculate Conception)
  • From Wednesday 23 Decemebr 2026 to Wednesday 6 Jannuary 2027 (Holy Chrismas)

Any change in the daily schedule will be immediately communicated to readers.
