Institutum Historicum Societatis Iesu (IHSI) – A publishing tradition in Jesuit history since 1894

IHSI is the publishing imprint for five book series, and a bi-annual journal, producing peer-reviewed scholarly works in Jesuit history from around the world.

Located in central Rome, IHSI operates as part of the Roman Jesuit Archive, whose mission is to preserve, provide access to, and promote Jesuit sources and history for international scholarship.

Mission

Institutum Historicum Societatis Iesu (IHSI) publishes original research on all aspects of the history of the Society of Jesus, including all regions where the Society has operated, and all fields of Jesuit endeavour through its long history of almost 500 years. We aim to publish works that touch on the universal history of the Society of Jesus, either explicitly, or in terms of the wider consequences that a focused study might have for our understanding of Jesuit history in its broadest sense. We are particularly interested in publishing work that conducts critical analysis of original documents within the context of current literature in the field, with the aim of providing valuable, even new, perspectives in any given field of research touching on Jesuit history.
